Research Interests
I am mostly interested in chemicals and their use in communication in insects. I like to identify chemical signals and understand how they are used to convey the insects’ intentions.
Both my MS thesis and my PhD dissertation focused on sex pheromones. The former concentrated on the regulation of the biosynthetic pathway of the pheromone, and the latter on the chemical identity and characteristics of pheromonal components. During my post-doctoral fellowship in Dr. Liebig’s lab, I concentrated on primer pheromones used by reproductive individuals to regulate reproduction in their nestmates.
Here, I will focus on identification of chemicals used for defense and communication by the Heteroptera, and try to see if there are any correlations between the use of chemistry and the evolutionary success of any given taxon.
