Using both field observations and comparative population genetics, I aim to better understand species' dispersal ecology and its affect on species evolution and conservation. My recent work on coral reef fish larval dispersal helped to demonstrate the benefits of establishing marine reserves, and also highlighted Hawaii's important contribution to marine biodiversity by unexpectedly revealing Hawaii is exporting larvae to reefs throughout the central Pacific. Currently, I am working with colleagues here at the University of Arizona to establish a biogeographic and genetic baseline for tracking (and ultimately predicting) how ground dwelling insects respond to climate change.
