I am interested in studying the nervous system and the organization of its basic components. The synapse is the fundamental unit of function in the nervous system. We use a multidisciplinary approach to study molecular mechanisms that underlie synaptic function. Experiments are performed on the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster), an advantageous model system due to the wide variety of genetic tools available in this species. More specifically, we utilizing synapses of genetically modified Drosophila as a model system to examine the function of the gene product and its signaling pathways.
