Wendy Marussich Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Home Undergraduate Research ProjectsI am interested in working with highly-motivated students who want to learn molecular biology techniques in the context of ecological research. I am currently using PCR and DNA sequencing to examine the phylogenetics of the pollinating and non-pollinating fig wasps that occur on several species of fig trees in Panama. The fig-fig wasp pollination mutualism is a highly specialized interaction in which fig trees and pollinating fig wasps are both completely dependent on one another for survival and reproduction. Non-pollinating fig wasps are dependent on the fig trees for their survival and reproduction, but often reduce the survival and reproduction of both the fig trees and pollinating fig wasps (for more information see my “research interests” page). This is an ongoing project and interested students may be able to carry out an independent research project related to this system. If you think you would like to conduct research with me, please contact me at wmarussi@email.arizona.edu so that we can discuss your interests. Note : Pima Community College students may be eligible to receive compensation for their participation in this research project. Women and minority students are strongly encouraged to apply. |
